Taking lifestyle aspects into account with LEGEP* and WinMobil
Diploma thesis by Holger Wolpensinger at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Karlsruhe (TH) in 2002
First examiner: Prof. Dr. Niklaus Kohler ifib - Institute for Industrial Construction Production
Brief description
A housing development design with 140 flats (see www.sdg21.eu/db/autofreie-solarsiedlung-nancystrasse) for 420 inhabitants is examined for the relevant environmental impacts and their reduction potentials using the indicators GWP 100 (Global Warming Potential in 100 years) and primary energy in the standard/best case and worst case variants.
Detailed investigations are carried out in the areas of buildings and mobility. This is contrasted with lifestyle aspects such as travel, food, clothing and private and public consumption. Results: Compared to a conventional settlement, 80% CO2 savings are currently possible with available knowledge and marketable technologies. Of these, 80% of the emissions depend on the choices or lifestyle of the residents. The sub-aspects examined are presented according to the magnitude of their reduction potential. By quantifying the ecological aspects in kWh/inhabitant and year or tonnes of CO2/inhabitant and year, the different areas can be weighted and effective measures identified.
